2013 JA Company Program

It's that time of year, as the Company Program comes to an end, that achievers get the chance to write on our Wall of Evidence. You must write a quote about your experience in Junior Achievement not a stock quote. You must write down your quote on a sheet of paper and a Center Manager will come to your company and approve your quote.

This is a privilege not a free for all. DO NOT write on the wall without approval from a Center Manager. Please be prepared with your quote when you show up for your night. This will be your only opportunity to write on the wall.

Also, please make sure that each achiever that is attending has read the Student Procedures & Expectations for ABHOF.

The Application for the Local Awards & Scholarships are now open! There are awards for achievers in non-executive and executive positions! Click here to access the criteria for each award (this file can also be found under the Scholarships tab).

The deadline to apply is Friday, May 17, 2013. Please apply as soon as possible!

The awards process is as follows:

1. Students fill out one application form with all the awards he/she would like to apply for by May 17, 2013.
2. The following week, applications will be reviewed by the advisors who will comment on them.
3. Applications will then be reviewd by JA staff to determine achievers elegible for an interview.
4. Interviews will take place on Tuesday, May 28 at the JA Centre, by the JA Board of Directors.
5. Based on Business Plans, Audits, Shareholder's Report, the application, and comments from advisors and interviewers, the winners will be selected.
6. Winners will be announced at the Company Program Awards night on June 6, 2013.

Interviews will take place on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 starting at 5:30PM. Please make sure that you are not busy that night if you are applying for awards.

Liquidating the company is a process that will take a couple of weeks. After that, you will have to write a Shareholder's Report and complete some more steps. Please refer to the Criteria and Checklist posted under Resources.

All these steps must be completed before Friday, May 24th, 2013.

Once you have completed these steps, you'll have to plan for an off-site Board Meeting. Details to come.

Also, all companies are eligible to submit their Final Shareholder's Report for the Canadian Company of the Year Competition. The deadline to submit is May 24th, same as for the local competition. All you have to do is let us know if you want to participate by commenting below. 

For those Presidents and Vice Presidents that are attending the President's Luncheon, here are the details:

There will be a Webcast for the Networking Workshop for students in remote locations at 11:00am this morning. Students from in-school companies and St.Albert should not be on the Webcast, and should come in person to the JA Centre for the workshop.

If you have an Ipad or mobile device, you can download the Google+ app and access the conferece through the app.

1. Make or use an existing Gmail account.
2. Got to http://plus.google.com
3. Upgrade your Gmail account to a Google+ account. (It's free)
4. Log in
5. On the left hand side, once you are logged in, go to the "Find People" option.
6. Search for "Marisa Pazder". Two options should pop up, add the one with the picture.
7. I will add you back, and you should recieve a notification when I do.
8. On the left hand side of the page, go to the "Hangout" option.
9. We will have the Hangout running all morning. As soon as I add you to the hangout, you will recieve another notification, and you will be able to join the video conference.
10. Do not try to invite me to a Hangout, I will invite you.
11. If you have any problems or questions, please text or call me at 780-974-9159 ASAP so we can work it out before the session starts!

We have 1 more ticket available per company for the Alberta Business Hall of Fame. This name must be approved by the company's president who will then send us the name of the extra company member. Please have the name submitted by 11:30am on Saturday, May 4. If your company does not give us a name by 11:30am we will then assign the ticket to other students that may not be in your company.

It has come our attention that IB exams start the week of this event, but because this networking workshop is crucial to your company's success at the Alberta Business Hall of Fame, we have made the decision to shorten it. So that we can accommodate those students writing these exams, the event will now be from 9:30am-12:15pm. 

However, because of this change, the event is now mandatory for all those attending ABHOF who participate in the program in the Edmonton area. All students outside of Edmonton that are attending ABHOF are encouraged to attend if they are able to make it. Additionally, all other company members are still welcome to attend as there will be opportunities to earn a ticket to the Alberta Business Hall of Fame.

In lieu of the Verve Conference, Junior Achievement is hosting a one-day conference on May 4 from 9:30AM – 2:30PM at the JA Center.

Instead of having a networking session during your production night, the networking session will be at the conference to train you for the Alberta Business Hall of Fame. Additionally, there will be time to put your new networking skills to the test, learn more about the Social Entrepreneurship opportunities available for your company, and meet achievers from other company’s through our teambuilding challenge.

For all VP Finances, there will be a special session for you to brush up your skills and learn how to close your company at the end of the year.

This event is strongly recommended for the students attending the Alberta Business Hall of Fame and any after-school company that received less than 160 points on Part 1 of the Audit, but is open to all students who would like to attend.
